How To Create Ritual + Routine In Your Day To Day Life

When we begin to curate daily rituals, routines, practices and celebrations into our daily lives, we cultivate more joy, ease and flow into our day.

Some of the many ways to create ritual+celebration are setting intentions, invoking prayer, the daily practice of yoga and pranayama breathwork, and time spent mindfully in nature—enhancing connection to self, to the earth, and the divine.

Ritual is found in our ancient traditions but also in our modern world; you can trace and track these practices through time. We see these rituals, conscious and unconscious, in our patterns, rhythms, and movements through the world. The key is to make mindful daily rituals and celebrations, building structure and foundation in your day.

Rituals and celebrations go hand in hand—since the beginning of humanity, we have built community and evolved our emotional intelligence as a result. We have learned to lean into these practices in times of profound joy and sadness—in such magnificent life events as birth and death.

“In our lives, change is unavoidable, loss is unavoidable. In the adaptability and ease with which we experience change, lies our happiness and freedom." Buddha

So...what if we take and extend that emotional depth, wisdom, strength, courage, clarity and joy gathered in those profound moments of our lives and integrate them into more of our everyday living.

Start with adding something small to begin creating your daily ritual+routine. Here is a prayer you can use to get you started.

The Great Spirit Prayer

Oh, Great Spirit, whose voice I hear in the wind, whose breath gives life to all the world.

Hear me; I need your strength and wisdom.

Let me walk in beauty, and make my eyes ever behold the red and purple sunset.

Make my hands respect the things you have made and my ears sharp to hear your voice.

Make me wise so that I may understand the things you have taught my people.

Help me to remain calm and strong in the face of all that comes towards me.

Let me learn the lessons you have hidden in every leaf and rock.

Help me seek pure thoughts and act with the intention of helping others.

Help me find compassion without empathy overwhelming me.

I seek strength, not to be greater than my brother, but to fight my greatest enemy, Myself.

Make me always ready to come to you with clean hands and straight eyes.

So when life fades, as the fading sunset, my spirit may come to you without shame.
